CBG oil explained — and where to buy it in Sydney

4 June 2026

CBG oil is cannabigerol, a minor hemp cannabinoid in an MCT carrier. What it is, how it compares to CBD and CBN, and where to buy it in Sydney.

"CBG oil" is one of the more researched terms that lands on CBD Oil Sydney from Sydney buyers — and the search usually comes from someone who already knows CBD, wants to understand what comes next, and is comparing the cannabinoid shelf before buying. That is a reasonable starting point, so this page begins with the comparison, then explains the plant chemistry, the cost gap, and exactly what is in the bottles we stock for Sydney CBD, Parramatta, Bondi and Chatswood.

Short answer first: CBG oil is an oil carrying cannabigerol, a minor cannabinoid from the hemp plant in a neutral MCT carrier. It is a distinct compound from CBD and CBN, it is less abundant in the plant, and it typically costs more at the same milligram figure as a result. That is the complete factual picture.

CBG vs CBD vs CBN — comparison table

If you are coming to CBG oil from a CBD background, a side-by-side summary is the fastest way to orient yourself.

CBG oil CBD oil CBN oil
Cannabinoid Cannabigerol Cannabidiol Cannabinol
Abundance in hemp Minor — scarce Major — dominant Trace — forms on ageing
Plant origin Precursor (CBGA converts into the others) Converted from CBGA precursor Develops as raw hemp ages
THC content Trace (under 0.3%) Full-spectrum: trace; broad-spectrum: 0% Isolate: 0%
Carrier MCT (coconut-derived) MCT (coconut-derived) MCT (coconut-derived)
Bottle size 50 ml 50 ml 50 ml
Entry price $89.95 $89.95 $89.95

The entry price is identical across the three at the 1000mg mark; where CBG oil separates is that the cost-per-milligram of the raw compound is higher at every strength, reflecting how much less of it the hemp plant yields. More on that below.

For our CBD oil range — available in both full-spectrum (whole-plant, trace THC under 0.3%) and broad-spectrum (THC stripped to 0%) — the product catalogue has both families at every strength from 1000mg to 12000mg.

What is cannabigerol — the plant chemistry

Cannabigerol (abbreviated CBG) is one of the naturally occurring cannabinoids produced by Cannabis sativa — the hemp plant. In the standard classification used in cannabis chemistry it is a minor cannabinoid, meaning it is present in comparatively small quantities in a mature hemp crop.

The nickname you will see repeatedly online is the "mother cannabinoid." That name is a reference to plant biosynthesis, not to any property of the oil. Here is what it means in practical terms: early in the growing cycle, the hemp plant produces an acidic compound called cannabigerolic acid (CBGA). Specific plant enzymes then redirect the bulk of that CBGA pool — converting it into the chemical precursors of CBD, THC, and CBC as the plant matures. By the time a hemp crop is harvested, only a small proportion of the original CBGA has remained as CBG. "Mother" simply marks where the compound sits in that conversion sequence; it is a chemistry-of-origin statement and describes nothing about what the oil does.

Because so little cannabigerol is left in a mature plant — certainly far less than the cannabidiol that dominates most full-plant extracts — a greater mass of plant material is required to reach any given milligram total. That is the supply-chain root of the price gap, which the next section addresses directly.

Why CBG oil costs more than CBD oil

The cost differential between CBG oil and CBD oil at the same milligram figure has a single, straightforward explanation: scarcity at source.

A typical mature hemp crop yields a CBD concentration many times higher than its CBG concentration. To produce a 3000mg CBG oil, the extraction process must begin with substantially more plant biomass than a 3000mg CBD oil requires, because you are working with the minor cannabinoid that the plant has already converted away from during growth. Higher input cost per milligram of finished cannabigerol passes through to the product price.

There is nothing in the production process that makes CBG oil a premium product beyond that yield reality. The carrier oil is the same MCT, the bottle size is the same 50ml, the testing standard is the same batch COA. It is a supply fact about the cannabinoid, nothing more, and comparing cost per milligram rather than cost per bottle is the clearest way to evaluate value across the range.

Our CBG oil — SKUs, strengths, per-mL maths

At CBD Oil Sydney we stock CBG oil in four strengths, all in the same 50ml MCT bottle, all imported from EU Labs in Amsterdam and dispatched from within Australia to NSW and nationwide.

Strength mg/ml Price AUD
1000mg CBG oil 20 mg/ml $89.95
3000mg CBG oil 60 mg/ml $220.00
6000mg CBG oil 120 mg/ml $390.00
12000mg CBG oil 240 mg/ml $585.00

The per-mL figure is the practical number to compare across bottles: the 1000mg option delivers 20mg of cannabigerol per millilitre; the 3000mg delivers 60mg/ml in the same volume. Choosing a higher-strength bottle does not change what the oil is — it concentrates more cannabigerol into each millilitre of MCT.

Every bottle is full-spectrum, carrying a trace of THC held under 0.3%, which is consistent with Australia's standard for low-THC hemp products. Each batch is lab-tested by an independent laboratory, and we will send the Certificate of Analysis for any batch on request — that document is where the cannabinoid figures and the THC reading are confirmed in writing.

Reading the label before you buy

Any cannabinoid oil you buy in Sydney or across NSW should carry two numbers you can verify against a COA: the total milligrams (how much cannabigerol is in the whole bottle) and the milligrams per millilitre (how much is in each measured drop).

Divide total milligrams by volume in millilitres to check that calculation yourself — if a 50ml bottle says 3000mg, the mg/ml should read 60mg. If those numbers do not reconcile on the label or the COA, that is a red flag worth asking the seller about before purchase.

After those two numbers, confirm the carrier oil (ours is coconut-derived MCT), the THC reading (confirmed on the COA, not just asserted on the front), and whether the product is batch-tested or tested only once at product development. Batch testing means each production run has its own COA — a meaningful difference if consistency matters to you.

Which strength suits a given buyer is a personal decision based on concentration and budget, not a medical question we answer. If you want a plain explanation of how to measure a serving from a dropper bottle, our guide to using CBD oil walks through the mechanics — the same dropper arithmetic applies whether the bottle contains CBD or CBG oil.

Is CBG oil legal in NSW?

CBG oil in Australia is governed by the same national framework that covers all low-THC hemp and cannabinoid products, administered federally rather than state-by-state. NSW does not add a separate layer on top of the federal position for products of this kind.

The practical checkpoint is the THC content — the figure the COA confirms. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is the federal authority that publishes Australia's current regulatory position on cannabidiol, cannabigerol and related compounds. Rather than restate a summary that may age, we direct Sydney buyers to that source for the current rules.

What we can say with confidence: our oils are described only by composition, sold to adults aged 18 and over, posted to buyers in Sydney CBD, Parramatta, Bondi, Chatswood and the rest of NSW, and we do not claim they are prescription products.

FAQ

What is CBG oil? CBG oil is cannabigerol — a minor cannabinoid from the hemp plant — suspended in a coconut-derived MCT carrier oil. The plant makes it first, as cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), and converts most of it into the precursors of other cannabinoids as it grows. That is why it is called the "mother cannabinoid." Our bottles are 50ml, full-spectrum, with a trace of THC under 0.3%.

How is CBG different from CBD? They are two separate cannabinoids from the same plant. CBD (cannabidiol) is the most abundant and is available in both full-spectrum (whole-plant, trace THC) and broad-spectrum (THC removed to 0%) forms. CBG (cannabigerol) is a distinct, less abundant compound, sold here as its own single-cannabinoid oil.

How is CBG different from CBN? CBN (cannabinol) is a different cannabinoid again — it forms as raw hemp ages rather than being synthesised during growth. Our CBN oil is supplied as a THC-free isolate: one cannabinoid, nothing else. CBG is full-spectrum with a trace of THC; CBN is an isolate at 0% THC.

Why does CBG oil cost more than CBD oil? The hemp plant converts most of its early CBGA into other cannabinoids as it matures, leaving very little CBG in the finished crop. More plant biomass is required to reach the same milligram total, which puts the raw compound cost higher. It is a yield fact, not a product quality claim.

Is CBG oil legal in NSW? Cannabinoid products are regulated under Australia's national framework via the TGA, not separately by NSW. Our oils are sold by composition to adults 18+. Check the TGA website for the current national position.
